City of Kenai Water Supply Improvements Kenai, Alaska
HDL assisted the City of Kenai by providing a groundwater study to determine the optimum location and treatment process to provide the City with high quality drinking water to meet future demands. The results of this study were a recommendation to construct a water treatment system to remove color from water produced from the existing City Well #2 and subsequent wells drilled nearby into the same aquifer. HDL also performed an aquifer evaluation to determine the long term viability of the source water aquifer and developed a well field plan to supply up to 2.0 MGD during the highest demand period that the City experiences. As a result of these studies, the City is moving ahead with a water supply improvement project.
The City of Kenai Water Supply Improvements project consist a new water treatment plant capable of treating up to 2.0 million gallons per day of high color water to a level found acceptable by City officials. HDL is the prime consultant for the project and will provide project management, a site survey and geotechnical investigation, site civil design, design/build criteria for a backwash settling and recycle tank, and design of associated yard piping. Water treatment process and building electrical and mechanical design will be provided through a subcontract with HDR Alaska, Inc.; Dave Thompson, P.E. will provide building structural design.
