John Thornley is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a master's degree in geotechnical engineering. While in Nevada, John’s focus was on geotechnical earthquake engineering, foundations, and retaining structures. John has over six years of geotechnical engineering field exploration and design experience. John has also overseen the quality control of numerous civil construction projects in Nevada and California. At HDL, John serves as field manager of geotechnical studies and prepares recommendations for roads, airports, and foundations for a variety of structures. John currently serves on the Municipality of Anchorage Geotechnical Advisory Commission. He is also active in the national geotechnical community writing and presenting papers on retaining structures and deep foundations and peer reviewing papers on deep foundations. John is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and has worked out-of-country on wastewater treatment systems for Engineers Without Borders. He currently lives in Anchorage with his two children. |
