When Scott Hattenburg and Lorie Dilley first opened HD’s doors in 2001, they were a team of two. Quickly, they hired much-needed help and began writing A LOT of proposals. The following year, Dennis Linnell joined, forming Hattenburg, Dilley & Linnell. The Alaska engineering company recruited more talented staff and eventually landed the Parks Highway MP72-83 Rehabilitation project — a major win for a newcomer on the scene.
In late 2000, Dave Lundin was a new PE who had only recently moved to Alaska. Scott approached Dave about the new company, and Dave followed him to HD. Dave — the company’s first employee — was given the opportunity to buy in as an owner. He has remained an owner of the firm ever since.
When Dennis joined, he brought Jeff Fuglestad, Carita Backman, and Nancy Yarmack to create a highly competitive Transportation Group.
During those first few years, the company’s five-year goal was to grow to about 20 or 25 employees and earn $5 million in revenue. They exceeded that goal in three years.
Today, HDL has grown to employ more than 70 engineers, surveyors, geologists, environmental scientists, construction administrators, and support staff with much to be grateful for and many projects we are proud of.
We partner with our clients to develop creative solutions with an emphasis on quality, integrity, teamwork, respect, and positivity. When it comes to our employees, we encourage them to follow their passions and are committed to their safety, well-being, and development.
Our commitment to our clients is one of uncompromising integrity, quality, and respect. Teamwork is one of our highest values – we consider ourselves a partner to our clients in every sense of the word.
A successful project begins before the contract is awarded. With this in mind, we carefully choose projects and project team members that align with our expertise and values.
We believe in using a team approach, both internally with our team and externally with all stakeholders. To keep projects on track, we ensure that we are managing our team and their efforts at all phases of the engineering, procurement, and construction process.
Our company is a strong believer in giving back to our local communities and charities. We’re proud to support and help those in need. Our team’s hard work and dedication to our community have helped raise funds and collected donations for organizations such as the Food Bank of Alaska, The Salvation Army Alaska Division, and more. Together we strive to make a difference through our philanthropy and volunteering efforts.
For the past 20 years, HDL has been designing for Alaska.
From highways that connect our major cities to airports that provide access to rural villages, our Alaska engineering company has had an impact on the State’s infrastructure and its residents.
