Project Overviewx
The Glenn Highway is a critical transportation artery that serves as the primary corridor connecting Anchorage with the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and beyond. The highway plays a vital role in supporting the region’s economic growth and providing access to essential services and amenities for local residents. With the growing demand for transportation infrastructure, the Glenn Highway required rehabilitation to preserve and extend its service life, enhance safety, and potentially provide passing and climbing lanes.
To meet this need, HDL provided surveying and mapping services for the Glenn Highway realignment project between MP 84 and 92. Our team of experienced surveyors played a critical role in ensuring the success of the project, providing accurate and reliable surveying data that informed the design and construction phases of the project.
Our surveyors established horizontal and vertical control for the realignment portion of the project, which involved approximately 7.5 miles of the Glenn Highway. We also developed existing ground surface cross-sections to compare against existing LiDAR data, ensuring the accuracy of the LiDAR data for design purposes. This attention to detail and precision helped to ensure that the final design of the Glenn Highway realignment met the project’s objectives and was completed on schedule.
In addition to establishing control and developing cross-sections, our surveying services included providing survey ties to boreholes from the geotechnical investigation, topographic and bathymetric survey at the proposed Purinton Creek Bridge site, and topographic and hydraulic cross-sections of three stream crossings. Our team’s expertise and attention to detail helped to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the survey data, providing valuable information to inform the design and construction phases of the project.
Through our surveying and mapping services, we were able to help the Glenn Highway realignment project meet its objectives of preserving and extending the service life of the highway, enhancing safety, and potentially providing passing and climbing lanes. Our work also ensured that the project was completed on schedule, minimizing disruptions to the traveling public and maximizing the benefits of the project for the region.
