Project Overview x
HDL provided comprehensive surveying and mapping for Kongiganak Airport‘s runway, taxiway, apron, AWOS pad, and segmented circle pad to support design improvements. The project involved various tasks, such as recovering and verifying existing airport control points and conducting a detailed topographic survey of the airport property and its features like NAVAIDS, obstructions, drainageways, barge landing road, and dock area. Additionally, the team performed a thorough boundary survey for the airport right-of-way (ROW) and the adjacent village road ROWs.
The project was executed from start to finish by the HDL team. This included tasks like tracing the meander lines of water bodies, resolving ROW boundaries, and updating property measurements. HDL was responsible for creating all necessary deliverables, such as the Standard Construction Drawings, Airport Property Plan, and a parcel plat specifically for the barge landing road easement. The entire project was integrated into the DOT&PF’s Kuskokwim River 2015 Land Development Plan system, using the NAVD88 as the Vertical Datum.
To accomplish this, HDL’s surveyors utilized advanced equipment, including the Leica precision GNSS receivers, levels, reflectorless total stations, and Infinity software. These tools seamlessly integrate with Civil 3D software, enabling efficient and precise mapping. Throughout the survey processes, HDL maintained rigorous safety and quality control protocols.
Despite facing challenges such as the delayed Notice to Proceed and concerns about completing the fieldwork before winter, HDL’s team successfully finished the survey ahead of winter’s onset. The results met client expectations, the project adhered to the schedule, and it was completed under budget.
