Project Overview x
For over two decades, the City of Wasilla has trusted HDL to provide engineering expertise for the Wasilla Airport. As the airport continues to grow, HDL has played a crucial role in its planning, design, and construction management, contributing to its overall success.
HDL’s partnership with the Wasilla Airport has resulted in several successful projects. These include the completion of the Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) runway, parallel taxiway, general aviation aprons with associated taxiways, and perimeter fencing and security gate improvements. These projects have made the airport safer, more efficient, and more accessible to pilots and passengers.
Recently, HDL has completed several critical projects at the Wasilla Municipal Airport. The construction of Aviation Avenue provides more direct access to the airport and helps improve traffic flow, while gate access control improvements enhance security. The Apron E project, a significant undertaking, included 4.5 acres of illuminated aircraft parking with 27 new tie-down spaces – all supplied with power for head bolt heaters. The excess excavated material from this project was used to open up approximately 18 acres for future airport development, demonstrating HDL’s commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management.
HDL’s current projects at the Wasilla Municipal Airport include the development of a pavement maintenance plan and a pavement maintenance project for Runway 4/22. The team is also providing planning services for future hangar development west of Aviation Avenue and south of Beacon Street.
HDL’s long-standing partnership with the City of Wasilla and the Wasilla Airport is a testament to the firm’s commitment to delivering quality, innovative solutions to its clients.
